CONTROLLER JOB #JCL135
Johnson’s Group of Companies?is seeking an experienced and strategic?Controller?to oversee financial operations across multiple established and growing businesses. Based in?Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, this senior leadership role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a respected organization known for excellence and innovation.
We are looking for a proven finance professional with strong expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, payroll oversight, and multi-entity accounting. The ideal candidate brings sound judgment, leadership, and a commitment to accuracy and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Lead with full cycle accounting including variance analysis and month end financial reporting
Lead payroll administration for all payroll processes including accuracy of time entry, payment, benefits administration, and payroll remittances
Assist with management of accounting and budgeting within the organization
Lead with preparations for audits
Ensure compliance with and prepare reports according to applicable government regulations
Review and analyze monthly budget variance reports and balance sheet accounts
Review project financial statements for accuracy and financial objectives
General Ledger maintenance including significant account reconciliations for monthly working papers
Review and manage monthly bank & credit card reconciliations
Develop new processes to promote efficiencies and improve internal controls
Complete various recurring and ad hoc reports requested by company’s executive team members
Identify and implement efficiencies within the department and company
Required Skills and Qualifications
A University degree in accounting, business, or finance stream, with preference given to candidates who are near completion of or have an accounting designation.
A minimum of five years of progressive experience and knowledge of all aspects of accounting and financial reporting.
Knowledge of appropriate accounting principles, practices, and applications.
Advanced skills in MS Office, with exceptional Excel abilities.
Proficient communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are vital to the role.
Good problem-solving skills and analytical skills.
Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines.
Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
Experience in job costing and knowledge of construction accounting software would be an asset.
