This project involved partial demolition and replacement to a existing wharf located in Trout River, NL. Scope included demolition of existing wharf, supply and installation of sheet piling, timber crib construction, placement of new concrete deck, installation of new wharf fendering, paving and upgrades to existing electrical services.
As the site civil works and services subcontractor for the project contractor, Nexans, JCL is performing land based scope including: trenching and stabilized backfill for HVDC cables, construction of concrete winch and armour terminal foundations, scaffolding, material procurement, and heavy lift assistance. With a rigorous schedule set to meet offshore cable-laying operations, JCL has planned the work and secured the necessary permitting to ensure uninterrupted progress.
As part of the fish habitat compensation works for the Muskrat Falls hydro development, JCL is creating, spawning, and rearing habitat adjacent to Pinus River and Edward's Brook in Labrador. The project involves mass excavation and pad construction, screening and placing rip rap, bank, stabilization, dewatering, boulder placement on land and on islands in the Churchill River and the creation of a river diversion berm to redirect the Pinus River.
As the Prime Contractor for this work scope, JCL worked with its engineer, Frontier Subsea, to plan and execute the installation of a series of in-water tie-back anchors and an accompanying floating ice, debris and safety boom. In water anchors consisted of five 13.5 MT Delta HHP anchors tied to a chain and wire rope configuration which was fastened to 1.2 mm dia. foam filled steel pontoons.
JCL was engaged by the Electrical Contractor to construct underground works in the AC Switchyard portion of the Soldiers Pond Terminal Station. Logistically challenging, the work involved the installation of cable trenches, storm sewer, water service, direct bury conduit, concrete encased duct bank and the management of associated interfaces with the electrical contractor.
Efficient and safe transportation of copper and zinc concentrate from the Tech Cominco Mine in Duck Pond, NL to the shipping port of St. George’s, NL. The annual production is in the order of 150,000 Tonnes.
This project required the grading of a 20 ha site in order to facilitate a laydown yard for AC transmission line components on the Lower Churchill Project. Included in the scope was the design, supply and installation of a site power system for temporary offices which were to be installed.
