Lomond River Fishway Replacement

Replacement of the fishway at Lomond River in Gros Morne National Park. The work included site access and preparation, demolition and removal of the existing concrete pool-and-weir fishway, construction of a new reinforced-concrete vertical-slot fishway, rip-rap and armour-stone protection, and installation of a new pre-engineered steel pedestrian bridge on reinforced-concrete abutments.

Trout River - Wharf Reconstruction.

Partial demolition and reconstruction of the existing wharf at Trout River, Newfoundland and Labrador. The scope included demolition, supply and installation of sheet piling, timber crib construction, placement of a new concrete deck, new wharf fendering, paving and upgrades to existing electrical services.

Subsea HVDC cables for Maritime Link land installation civil works

As the site civil works and services subcontractor to Nexans, JCL completed land-based work supporting the Maritime Link subsea HVDC cable installation. The scope included cable trenching and stabilized backfill, concrete winch and armour-terminal foundations, scaffolding, material procurement and heavy-lift assistance, together with planning and permitting to support the offshore cable-laying schedule.

Construction of Fish Habitat Compensation Works

Fish habitat compensation work associated with the Muskrat Falls hydroelectric development, creating spawning and rearing habitat adjacent to Pinus River and Edward's Brook in Labrador. Work included mass excavation and pad construction, screening and placement of riprap, bank stabilization, dewatering, boulder placement on land and within the Churchill River, and construction of a diversion berm to redirect the Pinus River.

Installation of a debris, ice, and safety boom for the Lower Churchill Project

As prime contractor, JCL worked with Frontier Subsea to plan and install in-water tie-back anchors and a floating ice, debris and safety boom for the Lower Churchill Project. The anchoring system included five 13.5 MT Delta HHP anchors connected through chain and wire-rope configurations to foam-filled steel pontoons.

Construction of underground civil works within the AC switchyard at the Soldiers Pond Terminal Station. Working for the electrical contractor, JCL installed cable trenches, storm sewer, water service, direct-bury conduit and concrete-encased duct bank while coordinating the associated interfaces with electrical construction.

Transportation of copper and zinc concentrate from the Teck Cominco mine at Duck Pond, Newfoundland and Labrador, to the shipping port at St. George's. The operation handled annual production in the order of 150,000 tonnes.
